Many years ago, as a small boy I made a few candles with my mother mainly for Christmas. My mother was a very craft orientated woman. With my younger brother we would spend weekends making or crafting objects as only small children can. Our mother was quite gifted in flower arranging. Later in life, she would open a florist shop. As with many things from our childhood these candles become part of my memories and drifted off into the past.

Recently my wife achieved a significant birthday. I decided to make her a special gift. I wanted something that was individual, made with love and would give her a sense of wellbeing. I made her a scented candle. We lit the candle on her birthday and in due course the scent of the candle filled our home. My wife was delighted, I was delighted. All was good in our world.

I called the scent Velvet Rose which has deep meanings for my wife.

We had some friends over to celebrate that evening who asked for similar candles. In the fullness of time, we made them for our friends. Later, we added a further scent, French Vanilla. We would continue to individually hand pour each candle.  Often, we would craft specific candles for our friends. Looking back, this was the beginning, we have travelled from a single candle for my lovely wife to Holland Park Candles. Our candles remain handcrafted, individually hand poured with the same level of love and care as that very first one I made for my wife.

 

Why Holland Park? I had very old uncle, actually my dad's uncle, who was named Holland. I would only meet him once or twice at family gatherings (christenings, weddings, funerals and that sort of thing). He was very tall, lots of silver hair and big bushy eye borrows (please remember I was only a boy at the time, and these are the things you remember!)  Holland gave my mother a candle making kit for my brother and I as a Christmas present one year all those years ago.....
